Sonic Riders is a racing game that takes place on airboards, called "extreme gear." While it doesn't make much sense that Sonic would need a board to race, the game actually does the franchise justice with its breakneck speed. What's the catch? There's no gas pedal: you're always accelerating.

The game features multiplayer split screen races (2-4 players). It was originally announced in Famitsu Weekly (Japan only) on September 7, 2005. The Japanese release was originally scheduled for December 2005, but was delayed until February 2006 shortly after the Tokyo Game Show.

Please excuse any errors you may encounter while using this section. Because the game was just released, we're scrambling to get everything organized for release, so sometimes there will be sections offline or broken links. We are aware of these problems and will try to fix them as soon as possible.
Story
*** Note: For detailed information about the levels, please visit the Track Strategies section. ***
There are two story modes that cross along the same plot in Sonic Riders. Initially, only the "Heroes" story is available, and the Babylon story is unlocked after completing it.

Track Strategies
There are six base courses in Sonic Riders with two variations of each course: one from each of the story modes. Each course has hidden shortcuts and secrets that can help you stay ahead of the pack.

Mission Mode
Mission mode is unlocked after completing the "Heroes" story. Each mission group contains five missions per track that consist of random tasks, such as earning points by doing tricks or collecting "junks." The trick system still earns you air, but the point system is new. Depending on the rank of your trick, you'll earn a different amount of points:

Mission 1:
Order of Boss:Report:
Draw attention by doing cool tricks! That little pink girl got ahead! But I'm sure I got more attention than her.
Objective: Perform tricks to get 12 or more points before Storm appears.
Character: Amy
Time Limit: 60 sec
Silver: Earn 20 Points
Gold: Earn 30 Points
Strategy: It shouldn't be too hard for you to just complete the bronze requirement. Make sure you jump and do tricks at the beginning and the dropoff right after the fly ramp - but make sure you don't accidentally land on top of a car on that last on. In the straightaway after the split tunnels, you can use the ramps on the side for smaller tricks. Your only other good time to jump is at the end before the "rotate analog stick" section, and if you can get high enough, you'll get to the second ramp for more trick options. Unfortunately, grinding rails will not earn you points even if you get link combos. Keep in mind that the mission ends if you cross the finish line even if you have time leftover. If you're going for the gold, you're going to have to get an X rank on at least one jump and make it to the final ramp. It takes some practice, but it's possible. The easiest way to do it is to do a high jump off each ramp and then do tricks by pushing the stick to the side - twists are a lot faster than flips and they pump up your combo meter a lot faster too.
